Task 1.3
Detailed Research on the coming of age drama.
The "Coming of age drama" is a genre of film & other areas, but focusing on the film side, coming of age dramas focus on Childhood to Adulthood, the transition through life and what happens in those years. We go on a journey with the character throughout these years through hard & difficult times, this could be the classic "not fitting in" at Highschool and being upset about it but then the person who is not fitting in actually becomes the main focus in the school and is no longer the "odd one out" due to the fact they go through a change that makes them now "fit in". These are prime examples of what a Coming Of Age drama really is, each film represents it differently but this is the main idea or generalisation of the subject across a wide range of people.
During the production of our Coming Of Age drama, we took notice from this research across the board. Looking into the finer details to further understand how we can portray things within the film to have it quintessentially understood by the masses as a Coming Of Age drama. Looking at set design, acting & overall mood and themes in other examples of Coming Of Age dramas we used this information to build our base for a really good film that includes all areas to a high level of detail so it can be easily identified as a coming of age drama. This is what will make it appealing to the Young / Teenage audience we have targeted this too. They will especially like it as they will highly resonate with the film and make it comforting to them individually.
My inspiration comes from The Gilmore Girls tv show that is on Netflix. The story shows a young girl growing up from 10 years old up to in her 30's, this is an extreme version of a coming of age film, but this helped me understand what needed to be in our film and why, the on screen dynamic between all the actors in this needs to be replicated as best as possible in our film and for me personally it makes the show complete. The way the characters do things, say certain words and react to certain comments we as the viewers understand and know that character like a person so we know what reaction the character on screen will have as we are really invested in the storyline, this is something i really want to take away from this as my inspiration, i want the characters in our film to feel like they know the person on screen well enough to know their reaction to certain
things, this helps the dynamic of the film better as the viewer is more interested.
Task 2 : Your role on the shoot and your team
Task 2.1
The role I have been given is Assistant Producer, this role requires me to make Schedules, Manage Budgets, Assist the Producer throughout the Pre-Production, Production & Post-Production. I work directly with the Producer and we work collaboratively on projects to ensure we are all on the same page with the current progress for the production.
During the Pre-Production phase i will make sure everyone completes all documentation and that its at a high standard as well, if not this can make my job more difficult for creating Schedules and other bits of high detail documentation that everyone else relies on, and without it they wouldn't be able to know where they are and when or even what for so its absolutely necessary that everyone else completes their work to a high level.
Task 2.2
My peer review on another member of my team is about Harry Hart, he has worked along side me throughout all Pre-Production, Production & Post-Production to ensure everything is up to standard. Any work that me and Harry divided up amongst ourselves was completed by both of us together, however any work that was not completed together was completed solo but it never lacked any quality or substance. Harry made sure everyone was on task and organised, especially the actors, he was direct communication between actors and the film team. We both affect each others job roles significantly, without each others input we wouldn't have a well oiled production. We heavily relied on each others commitment to the team, and with the strong determination we had as a team we were able to pull through every high and low. When it came to the Pre-Production if one of us didn't do something we would quickly get onto doing it there and then, but this only affected the amount of time we had to make it, it did not affect the team moral, we were always understanding on situations and ready to provide solutions to query's. All my work that I completed helped contribute to Harry's blog work and any work Harry completed also helped contribute to mine as well, and work that was completed was completed evenly and equally between us as we are within the same department.
Peer Review on myself:
My Peer Review : Google PDF
The peer review was completed by someone anonymous and the results were given to me from the Lecturer. I agree with most of my answers however the "unable to provide assistance on set" is a rather far stretch as when I may be standing around and talking to people it is to ensure they don't need assistance with anything they are doing. A lot of people ask either me or Harry questions about the production as we are effectively everyone's bosses so a lot of the time it looks like we stand about doing nothing but we are actually either responding to people on teams, creating marketing, taking photos or helping people on set with any questions and even doing other peoples jobs like being a Runner because someone forgot batteries or something simple and we don't want to take away from anyone else so as the bosses we step in to help with the jobs no one wants to do, we do the little things to keep the production moving forward. I do agree with "not providing his opinion on how the shot can be improved upon" as I do not provide my opinion as it's not within my Job title to help perfect the shot and most of the time I like to keep those creative decisions up to the Camera Team as that is their job, I will happily provide input when asked because otherwise it is non of my business to be giving input on a busy film set while people are already voicing their opinion on the shot and then it becomes too much for the Camera Team to handle as everyone is shouting their opinion at them, so this why I do not do it, but if they would like me to give my opinion they can 100% most definitely ask me and I will provide my opinion but I have never been asked.
Task 2.3
I work within the Production Department, within this department there is myself and Harry, he is the Producer of the Film & my Boss. We work together on most Pre - Production and allocate tasks to one another. Harry's responsibilities consist of making the big plans with my assistance and overall allocating tasks and giving jobs to the rest of the team. He will build the production team, using his own personal opinion to give the roles out in favour of the person with the most experience and passion. This goes the same for the tasks, we both collectively allocate these tasks based on either previous performance or the individuals strengths, we do this to ensure that all Pre - Production will be completed smoothly but also challenging to those who need the extra experience for their technical skills.
Task 3 : Pre - Production
Task 3
All Pre-Production documentation is linked below in google drive contents, the majority of work completed was Pre-Production so there is a lot of documents which are heavily detailed with information. My Pre-Production work is within the "[1] Production Department" Folder. Both me and Harry Contributed to this folder as it was just us in this department.
Specifically my departments work : Google Drive
Also included below is everyone else's documentation we made as a team to support each other's grade's, this includes everything such as documentation for filming, planning & information on different things we may have needed while on set.

Task 4 : Production
Task 4 : Production
During the actual Production of the Feature Film, I had very little to do so I just jumped in when I could. This included stepping in for other people, doing little odd jobs, assisting people or showing people where toilets were, anything that may have needed to be done I would have done in the meantime if I wasn't creating marketing posts on set which I did a few times just to ensure there was enough content for the social medias.
Daily Production Diary : Google Doc
Photos from all days on set : Google Drive
Task 5 : Distribution
Task 5
Marketing & any other files to do with the distribution will be placed within the All Marketing Files google drive folder. Specifically Marketing Posts will only be in the folder called Marketing Posts.
For the distribution of the Film Tides, me & Harry created a plan that we would follow in order to keep the socials active during the Production / Post Production as previously the social media pages have been inactive when we have had other Feature Films, so this time around we wanted to change that. With the help of the rest of the team including Lecturers we were able to come up with a solid plan to help promote the film further. The reason we are creating so much marketing content / promotion is to ensure we sell all the seats for the movie premier night on the 20th of February as this money will help fund out FMP's and any additional equipment the course may need for future students to give them the best opportunity at making really good short films.
We decided to select Instagram as our main source of organic promotion. Canva was used to create many different posts and designs that we have in google drive and all over the UFilms Instagram account. To view any of the marketing posts on social media you can take a look on Instagram @ufilmsproductions. We had the rest of the team & other departments get stuck in and create some content for the marketing of the film, this helped everyone get involved in the Post-Production element if they had nothing else to do, so this was beneficial to them to learn as it helped them understand what you need to do for marketing a potential Event / Film.

Task 6 : Evaluation
Task 6
My work on the Feature Film overall was completed to a high standard & within good time. My input and contribution to the film has been constant throughout the entire production from start to finish, improving things from previous years, like taking that step and making everyone use Google Drive for better implementation within blog & using QR codes on the poster for the actors to sign up to their role of choice. Using and Creating google forms for both the Actors selecting their auditions and people buying tickets, these things helped improve the UFilms team to complete tasks easier and more efficiently. The work created in the form of Documents was also completed to a high standard to ensure it fit the industry standard equivalent, this made everything more professional on the UFilms end.
My peer and self assessment forms helped me understand my skills, strengths & weaknesses. Overall my work, organisation & dedication helped this production ultimately be as efficient as possible throughout the entire duration and without it I think it would not be as organised. This information has helped me gain an understanding of myself from an outsiders perspective of my drive, and now I know what needs to be potentially improved on in the next project.
Audience Feedback is highly important as these viewers are what is known as "general viewers" and we have to cater the films to this "general" category otherwise how would any random person want to view the films we create so its important that we stand out to the more normal / general eye as this is what makes films successful and enjoyable by the masses. The audience feedback we have gathered so far has been ...
At the very beginning of this project I had visions of how the end completion would look like, and I can say it has surpassed my expected standard. The hard days, long hours & never ending questions about tomorrows filming days are now over, this is all thanks to the whole UFilms team based out of Stockton Riverside College. The end product is fantastic, the hard work Charlie, Kenz and Jack Hes have inputted over the course of a few weeks editing have hugely impacted the end result and with everyone's expertise it has allowed us to create one of the best if not the BEST UFilms production ever.
My contribution had ranged from all things Technical, Creative and innovative. Making moves to bigger and better platforms for our team, as well as making the user operating end easier to understand for booking tickets for events and communication between clients & the UFilms team. Being as professional as possible for the UFilms Production Team, taking my experience from real world business strategies and implementing them within the college course for maximum efficiency as i want everything to be completed by the deadlines set by both me and Harry. By using different systems and strategies we were able to increase Pre-Production timeline by a week maybe even two weeks, we managed to lower this because all work was completed well before the deadlines set. During this production i have developed many skills, these have varied from Creating Systems for the team, Creating website integrations for members of the public to book tickets to our feature film & finally I've further developed my use for google drive and creating more technical documents for the team with more intricate details that allows me to be ahead of others within the documentation portion of the job. Some skills i would like to further improve on for my end of year project is getting more organised productions (on set), Having people doing jobs on set even if they have done all their things (to keep production moving quickly and smoothly) & finally i would like to have a better communication system between departments of the UFilms team while people are in different areas of the college to further improve efficiency and reduce production time.
